Central Maryland Research + Education Center
University of Maryland, College Park

This new 12,314 SF headquarters and laboratory building for the Central Maryland Research and Education Center (CMREC) is part of the College of Architecture and Natural Resources, University of Maryland, College Park.

The headquarters will provide a new laboratory for biology and entomology research. In addition to ongoing research projects, scientists provide on-site analysis serving the State of Maryland’s agricultural community. A drop-off area is adjacent to the lab entrance to safely receive agricultural specimens from the public for diagnosis.

The program also consists of an administration area with both private and open offices, conference rooms, document storage, a workroom, and break room facilities. There is an assembly space with movable walls to provide flexibility to subdivide the large rooms into three smaller learning/conference rooms. This public area is carefully segregated from laboratory zones of the building.

A new driveway will lead from the entrance at Folly Quarter Road to a new parking lot. The new headquarters will be built on a greenfield site and utilities will extend from adjacent properties. The design complies with the requirements of the IgCC and the High-Performance Green Building Program per the Maryland Green Building Council.

Construction will be complete in Fall 2023.
